FAQ
-
Can students take more than one summer class during a session?
- Students can take up to TWO high-school summer school classes with Aspire during one session.
- Remember that summer classes are .5 credit, so if students need a 1.0 credit, they would need to take 2 summer classes.
- Some classes are not able to be offered concurrently (for example, taking Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 at the same time during the summer would not be an option.)
-
What high school classes can my incoming ninth grader take?
- PE & Health ONLY with high school counselor approval.
-
Do students need to have their own computer/internet?
-
Students can use their DVUSD issued Chromebooks to complete summer work, or their own device, if desired.
-
Students MUST have/use their own internet/wifi.
-
-
My student is an incoming Freshman, and does not have a DVUSD Chromebook. How do they get one?
-
Incoming Freshman can come to Aspire, located at the Innovation Center (20402 N. 15th Ave) on May 24th between the hours of 8AM-4PM to check out a DVUSD Chromebook.
-
-
What is the time commitment for Aspire Summer School classes?
- Students should expect to spend about 23 hours per week per class on Summer School classes with Aspire.
- Remember that students are completing a typical semester long (18 week) course in just 6 weeks, so semester content is condensed within 6 weeks.
-
We have vacations planned during the Summer. Can students work ahead?
-
Students can work ahead in their summer classes. However, due dates are unable to be shifted to accomodate travel. Students and Parents/families should review summer school dates to ensure all content will be finished on time.
-
Please note: Some DVUSD networks/websites do NOT work overseas. Check with your school counselor OR Aspire Registrars AHEAD OF TIME if you are planning on students completing Summer work while abroad.
-
-
Can students turn in work late during the Summer Session?
-
Summer School classes do have weekly due dates that students need to follow. There will be a CLOSE DATE for assignments about half-way through the summer session, and assignments from designated modules may not be accepted after that date. See the Summer Due Date calendar or reach out to Aspire for more information.
-
-
How are grades reported in the summer?
- Powerschools is turned off for the summer session for student/parent view. Parents and students are able to check their summer school grades throughout the term using Canvas. Official grades for the summer will be recorded in PowerSchool and will be viewable once the new school year starts.

-
I signed up for Summer Classes. When will I hear from my teacher?

My student needs help with assignments. Are teachers available for help during the summer?
- Yes! Teachers have Weekly Open Office Hours (held via Zoom) during the summer that students can attend if they have questions or need additional support.
- Students can also message their teacher via Canvas and request a meeting for help/support as well!
-
I want to withdraw from an Aspire Summer School course. Will it affect my student's GPA or transcript?
