State Testing Information
Dear Aspire Families,
Each year our calendars will have days listed beginning the month of March for required state testing in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 11th grade. Participation in state testing is required by the state for students to remain enrolled in an Arizona Online Instruction Program. Administration wants to ensure that we begin the messaging now regarding upcoming Spring testing for our full-time students. We will work to create a safe testing environment for our students. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call the school at 623-445-4992 or email us at Aspire@dvusd.org.
As part of the A.R. S. 15-808: Pupils who participate in Arizona online instruction are subject to the testing requirements prescribed in chapter 7, article 3 of this title. On enrollment, the school shall notify the parents or guardians of the pupil of the state testing requirements. If a pupil fails to comply with the testing requirements and the school administers the tests pursuant to this subsection to less than ninety-five percent of the pupils in Arizona online instruction, the pupil shall not be allowed to participate in Arizona online instruction. Students who do not participate in state testing are subject to losing their open enrollment status at Aspire, Deer Valley's Online Academy for the current academic year.

District Assessments
Deer Valley Unified School District holds periodic assessments across content areas to ensure mastery of standards and measure student achievement rates. The results of these assessments are crucial to lesson planning, identifying Tier II & III interventions, and also enrichment opportunities.
Because of the nature of these tests, some tests are required to be proctored in-person as determined by the Content Area Instruction Specialist and security level of the exam.
Beginning the 22-23 School Year, Aspire will have mandatory in-person district assessments that all part-time and full-time students will need to come in to complete.
These requirements are communicated with students/families at the time of enrollment.

District Information & Expectations
The Civics test is an assessment that became a high school graduation requirement by our state legislature beginning in the 2016-2017 school year.
The DVUSD Assessment work team and District Administration determined that in 8th grade, all students will be given the Civics Test in School City. In 11th & 12th grade, students who must pass for graduation will be tested once in 11th grade and as many times as needed until passing in 12th grade.
8th Grade Goal: Tests are available for the teacher to assign monthly. Every 8th-grade student will be tested during the year (unless they take an alternative state test) and get 90% of your school to pass.
High School Goal: Tests are available for the teacher to assign monthly. We test all 11th-grade students once and 12th grade as often as needed.
-
Students test in person using a district device with a lock-down browser
