9th-12th Grade

• All Aspire High School Classes are asychronous, meaning that students do not meet live on Zoom for their classes. Students access all class materials and assignments through Canvas. 
• Students should submit assignments by the assigned due dates in Canvas. See "Due Dates" below for more information. 
• Semester start dates coincide with the with DVUSD School Calendar. High School classes will be available by 8AM on the first day of the semester. Students might not see their classes until this time. 
• Students must submit their Online Attendance through MyHours each week. 

• Aspire offers the opportunity for students to come in-person for support from their full-time online teachers at the Learning Lab, located at the Innovation Center. 
• The Learning Lab is open every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11:30AM-5:30PM. 
• The Learning Lab is always staffed by two full-time online teachers. If students would like to meet with their specific teacher, make sure to reach out and schedule a time!

• Aspire High School students typically will have two due dates per week. Students should submit their work by the due date listed in Canvas. 
• If needed, students do have the opportunity to turn in missing assignments up to two weeks after the initial due date with no penalty. 
• Teachers create pacing calendars for their classes so that students can pace out their work and plan ahead. View Canvas or your teacher's website for pacing calendars.

• If you have questions about an assignment, reach out to your teacher ASAP! 

• All assignments must be submitted through Canvas. Teachers grade assignments in Canvas and grades sync over to PowerSchools. 
• Course Assignments are weighted as follows: 
  • 80% - Assessments 
  • 20% - Coursework 
  • 0% - Practice 
  • Automatic Zeros go into the gradebook for all late work. 
• Students can view teacher feedback and rubric scores in Canvas. 
• Parents can make Observer Accounts in Canvas to view student assignments, progress, and teacher feedback on assignments. 
• Grades are updated every 72 hours. 
• Official grades are recorded in PowerSchools. 
• Questions regarding grades? Reach out to your teacher! 

• It is recommended that parents/guardians create an Observer Account in Canvas so that they can view student progress, assignments, and teacher feedback on assignments. 
• Parents can also create their own PowerSchool accounts to view student grades. Reach out to your school's or Aspire's registrars to get information on parent/guardian PowerSchool access.

• Technology issues can happen! If you/your student is having a technology issue related to Canvas or submitting assignments, reach out to your/your student's teacher ASAP!

🤖Academic Integrity & Artificial Intelligence 

In the Deer Valley Unified School District, we are committed to providing our students with the best possible education while ensuring their safety, privacy, and well-being. As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance learning experiences, teachers may incorporate generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the classroom for students. 

Students must adhere to the specific guidelines provided in the assignment details. If no guidance around the use of generative AI is provided, students should follow the “restrictive” level (see chart). Teachers should direct students to contact their teacher before submitting classwork if the student is unsure if the tool or website they are using is permitted on a specific assignment.
